Inspired by Sibongile West, member of Special Advisory Board for African PTSD Relief, the first internship program was formed at Spelman College, ranked near the top of all African American colleges in the US. Enthusiastic to help millions of Africans suffering from PTSD, 7 sophomore and juniors volunteered to help with research, social media, marketing, corporate social responsibility and more.
Two of these young ladies even decided that they would like to find out what made TM so effective and learned Transcendental Meditation in November.
Majoring in a wide range of subjects, from psychology to pre-med, from biochemistry to international studies and business, they all had one thing in common: the desire to help those in need.
The social media and marketing group has designed PowerPoint presentations to inspire support for this effort, designed Facebook or media advertising for African PTSD Relief, helped organize and calculate research data, and researched companies that may want to support this program across Africa (corporate social responsibility).
Here is one brilliant example, by Josee Muldrew, Psychology Major, of a Facebook presentation slide she posted:
Josee explained: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my participation in the Africa PTSD Relief internship program. It is so exciting to have a team behind you that supports, encourages, and offers insight about ways to further advance the knowledge most people have about post-traumatic stress disorder. I have been able to gain an in-depth understanding of PTSD and the role that transcendental meditation plays within it….I encourage anyone to join the efforts of Africa PTSD Relief and to inquire about the internship program because it is a very beneficial and insightful experience.”
