On October 27, our African PTSD Relief team attended the Charity Fair for Homeland Security legal counsel. At the event, we met the General Counsel Stevan E. Bunnell, who acts as the head lawyer for Homeland Security. Dr. David Streid first joined me, David Shapiro, on Wednesday, October 26 for the Charity Fair of the U.S. International Trade Commission.

Homeland Security is in charge of many phases of protection, including the immigration of  refugees who may have high levels of stress and PTSD. They also handle  civil disturbances. Recent examples include the aftermath of killings by and of police. Homeland Security legal counsel was interested in learning about the relationship between posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anger and violence, and the evidence that a meditation-based intervention could quickly and effectively reduce these aggravating factors. We were most appreciative of the opportunity to speak briefly with the General Counsel. The meeting was kindly arranged by CFC organizer Nick Hankey.

Since there were only 4 Charities present at the Homeland Security Charity Fair, there was ample opportunity to speak with interested Homeland Security attorneys.

We look forward to working with Homeland Security to provide our expertise in stress and post-traumatic stress reduction.

We have been invited next week, November 2 and 3, to two more charity fairs:

November 2:  Department of Health and Human Services which will be attended by Charles Rothwell, Director National Center for Health Care, 2nd floor auditorium, 3311 Toledo Road, Hyattsville, MD, 1-3 pm.

November 3: Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board, 77 K Street, NW, Washington DC, 1-2 pm.

We are being invited to one or two fairs a week, so African PTSD Relief is making many new friends in the federal government and awakening many divisions of the US Government to new possibilities for effective PTSD reduction. We now have about 60 federal government employees on our mailing list who receive newsletters and updates. Of this group, around 35-40% opened the first newsletter sent to them. This percentage is higher than that for the general list.

The African PTSD Relief CFC donation # is 94568.
