Within the Walter Reid Medical Complex in Bethesda, Maryland is a university for the military: Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. On October 12, African PTSD Relief was specially invited to join a group of 5 approved non-profits at their Charity Fair. Professors, health professionals, physicians, scientists, executives, and staff came to  learn about the non-profits, which all served vital needs: hospice, homelessness, pets for vets and art scholarships for the Washington DC area, and African PTSD Relief.

The Combined Federal Campaign manager who organizes for Walter Reid and the USUHS charity fairs, Deanna Stewart,  says that African PTSD Relief was given a special invitation. We will be invited back to speak with physicians and scientists at Walter Reid Hospital in a few weeks.

Many people watched the video of Esperance speaking and were inspired by her clear and rapid improvement after a short time with Transcendental Meditation. The landmark research was new to them and gave hope that there are more effective PTSD strategies than psychotherapy. Psychotherapy only brings 33% of US Veterans out of PTSD according to a meta-analysis of all randomly assigned studies on the top two most recommended psychotherapy regimes: cognitive processing and prolonged exposure (JAMA, Aug 4, 2015).

Along with many inspiring conversations, we met at least one person whose close relative has been diagnosed with PTSD and who will soon learn Transcendental Meditation. We also talked with at least two other employees who were  inspired to donate.
