Katie Grose, National Capital Area African PTSD Relief Coordinator and Chairperson of the Bethesda TM Center, presented African PTSD Relief at the Office Of Personnel Management (OPM) Fall Festival Charity Fair on Oct 12 in Rawlins Park, Washington DC.
Along with presenting Africa PTSD Relief to OPM employees for individual donations, she met representatives of OPM who not only helped with the management of Federal Government Employees, but also handled alternative veteran courts, alternative sentencing for civilians, and helped manage/ support African refugees entering the United States. Each of these groups can use Transcendental Meditation (TM) to reduce the stress and PTSD in them and provide humane alternatives. TM is already highly effective at reducing recidivism. In St. Louis, one judge was offering TM as an alternative to Jail time, so there is this history of use of TM in the judicial system.
If a soldier gets highly stressed or gets PTSD from his service, his anger and violence may be considered a social cost, not just an individual burden. Since Transcendental Meditation is the next-generation PTSD reduction strategy and has brought 90% of Congolese war refugees we tested came out of PTSD in 30-60 days, it would be an effective tool to reduce the stress, anger, violence in soldier or civilians with PTSD. It would also be an ideal tool to reduce risk of anger, violence or even terrorism from refugees entering our country. It would prove preventive stress management for refugees.
One representative of the Metropolitan Police force also showed interest in TM for PTSD Relief, both for Washington DC police and also for support for Africans in need.
Katie also talked with insurance company representatives who offer support to Federal Government employees. They showed interest in meeting to discuss both TM for reducing insurance costs as well as African PTSD Relief as worthwhile possibilities for donation, individual and corporate.
Congratulations to Katie for a very successful Charity Fair.
