On June 11, 2016, the West Virginia State Convention of Democrats, Charleston, West Virginia, resolved to find and support implementation of improved PTSD relief programs.
Here is the text of the resolution:
Resolution to provide improved posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) relief for West Virginians
2016 West Virginia State Democratic Convention,
Whereas 22 US Soldiers commit suicide each day from posttraumatic stress disorder,
Whereas 10-20% of all soldiers returning from service have PTSD, many times that of those who take their own lives,
Whereas West Virginia Veterans, first responders, and all who have experienced highly traumatic events and now have PTSD are at risk of chronic and debilitating symptoms of PTSD,
Whereas, Journal of American Medical Association has established that the two most widely used psychotherapy approaches free only 1/3 of the veterans with PTSD from this disorder,
Whereas psychopharmaceuticals are less effective than psychotherapy,
Now we, the Democratic Party of West Virginia, resolve to support efforts to discover and employ the most effective, most rapid, and most cost-effective evidence-based approaches to reduce this epidemic of stress and trauma.
