about us

African PTSD Relief (APR) is a project of PTSD Relief Now (PRN) that aims to reduce the pandemic of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder throughout Africa. APR uses the scientifically proven and cost-effective method of the Transcendental Meditation program (TM) to significantly reduce PTSD.

TM is shown to be effective in a wide range of settings in Africa and  around the world. Successful demonstration projects using this technology to address the complexities of this human trauma show promising reductions in PTSD in as little as 30 days.

APR develops, provides managerial support for, and seeks funding for PTSD relief projects in Africa. Our mission is to reduce PTSD for the millions of Africans who are dealing with the symptoms of PTSD or who are at risk of getting this disorder.

Project Goals

  • To support the introduction of the Transcendental Meditation to thousands of people in Africa who are suffering under the symptoms of PTSD.
  •   To support testing for PTSD symptoms within defined populations.
  • To support the training of TM instructors throughout Africa, in order to enhance the availability of the TM program in Africa for suffering from PTSD.
  • To support the training of TM technique monitors, who may assist the TM instructors with the delivery of the TM technique, especially to those who are dealing with PTSD-related problems.
  • To support the development of a higher quality of mental and physical health for people dealing with the debilitating symptoms associated with PTSD.
  • To support the development of a higher quality of life for the people of the African continent.

Happier Since Learning TM

Jadida is a refugee from Congo, living in Uganda. Her grandparents and her aunt were killed by government soldiers. Soldiers brutally gang raped Jadida, in front of her brother, and burned down the family home. Jadida, her father and brother fled to Uganda. The Red Cross has been unable to find Jadida's mother and other siblings.

When she came to us, Jadida was suffering from  rapid heart beat and frequent crying. Although her thoughts were occupied with her problems, she felt unable to share them with anyone.

Since learning TM , Jadida says her heartbeat is okay, she can talk to people and she's happier. Her father noticed such a difference in her that he asked if she had received a large sum of money!  She answered her father that it is the TM technique which helped her.
