Our Approach

Our Approach to Stress Relief:
Simple, Sustainable and Evidence-based

Until now, support for victims of PTSD has primarily involved two approaches.

In cognitive therapy or exposure therapy, trained professionals lead patients through repeated treatment sessions over the course of many months or years.

While such therapy can be helpful, most locations across Africa have little access to such support. For those limited areas that do have access, long term reliance on outside professionals, however beneficial, is not sustainable.

Pharmaceutical drugs are also used in some cases.

But unfortunately, while these drugs may mask the symptoms of PTSD, they do not remove the disorder and can have undesirable side effects while leaving the source of the problem to remain.

In contrast, the evidence-based Transcendental Meditation (TM) program can be learned in just a few sessions with a trained teacher and subsequently practiced at home by the learner.

TM is a simple, natural mental technique that enables many PTSD sufferers of any age to move beyond the constant agitation of their persistent thoughts and traumatic memories. TM can be used on its own or as an adjunct to other methods of support.

TM has been shown effective in both reducing symptoms of PTSD and traumatic stress as well as helping eliminate the deep source of stress within the individual giving rise to these symptoms.

African PTSD Relief specializes in supporting the delivery of the Transcendental Meditation program for the purpose of providing relief from PTSD and traumatic stress.

Now, I am energetic and full of confidence."
